DAN HILL - BRINGING IN THE NEW YEAR 2010

Internationally renowned Canadian artist Dan Hill is back in the spotlight with a successful book release, live performances, charity work and his first album featuring new material since 1996.

Translating his talent for singing and songwriting to prose writing, Dan penned the dynamic, critically acclaimed, bestselling book I Am My Father's Son: A Memoir of Love and Forgiveness. It traces Dan's difficult and poignant relationship with his father, civil rights activist Daniel Grafton Hill III, presenting their lives in parallel. As a child of mixed-race, Dan also struggled with his racial identity and his father's insistence that he right any injustice he encountered regardless of the consequences. Harper Collins published the hardcover in February 2009 and the paperback will be released in February 2010, including rave quotes by critics, renowned authors and singer/songwriters. The book came on the heels of a compelling cover story in Maclean's magazine titled "Every Parent's Nightmare"; in it, Dan wrote about how his family was nearly destroyed by his son's involvement in Toronto's "thug culture."

The powerful response to his memoir convinced Dan to return to the studio and record Intimate, to be released in March 2010 on his own label and distributed by Universal Music Canada. The album allowed him to sing songs he's written over the last decade, including new and never released singles, such as "The Human Spark"; an intimate, acoustic version of "Sometimes When We Touch"; and songs previously covered by other platinum-selling artists that have not been recorded by Dan, such as "I Do (Cherish You)." Two duets - "(Don't Tell Me) How I Feel" (CD's first single) and "I Promise You (With Everything I Am)" - are performed by Dan and one of Canada's most successful songwriters, Liz Rodrigues. Their soulful vocals blend with a warmth and seamlessness that manages to celebrate the best of both country and R&B, all the while sounding authentic and, most of all, passionate. Legendary songwriter, producer and Dan's frequent collaborator Keith Stegall sums it up best: "I was Dan Hill's fan long before I became his friend ... This is your masterpiece Dan and I am honoured to have lived and breathed some of it with you. Your talent is awe-inspiring ..."

In the CD booklet, several of the songs are accompanied by a "song story" detailing the emotional and often comical behind the scenes build up that inspired each song, expressing all sides of Dan's artistic passion. Intimate reunites producers Matthew McCauley and Fred Mollin, working with Dan for the first time since 1978. Together, the trio produced Dan's first four platinum-selling albums.

After more than 30 years in the music business, Dan has more often than not stepped behind the curtain, allowing other chart-topping artists, such as Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Jully Black, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, 98 Degrees, The Backstreet Boys, George Benson, Mark Wills, Reba McEntire and Alan Jackson, to sing his stirring ballads and pop hits. Between Dan's own hit singles, platinum albums, five Junos, a Grammy and countless ASCAP awards for most played songs over three decades, he has amassed over 100 million combined unit sales for all his songs. Dan will be returning to the stage in 2010 for a cross-country tour.

As a community ambassador, Dan is a supporter of the Canadian Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.ca). The disease affects more than two million Canadians, an estimated 246 million people globally, as well as Dan's grandfather, father, brother and himself. He was recently involved in a federal initiative to expand diabetes research with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada -

He is also dedicating his time and support to World Vision (www.worldvision.ca), which works with children, families and communities to overcome poverty.
